News and Notes
The 2019 BMW Championship will be played at Medinah Golf Course #3 which last hosted the US Open (1949, 1975, 1990), PGA Championship (1999, 2006), and 2012 Ryder Cup. One of the more notable things about the course is that it has only been leveraged in major venues or international competitions and it should play similarly this week as a Par 72 stretching nearly 7700 yards long. The course should play long with an overall challenging scoring environment with a winning score around 10-under par or so. Leveraging past strokes gained info doesn’t make a lot of sense given that a) some of these events didn’t have SG data and b) the course and game, in general, has changed since then, but what we can surmise is that typically courses that play more challenging (thus producing higher scores) typically reward ball striking to a greater degree than putting. Courses that play easier, typically see more deviation in scoring driven from putting.
With just a 70-man field this week there will be no cut and (pending WDs) all golfers will play four rounds. For DFS purposes this will remove a little bit of the variance with four rounds for players to rise or fall on the leaderboard, as well as rack up DK scoring points. We would expect the finish position bonuses to be more important for high-end performers and fantasy scoring to separate players that are lower on the leaderboard.
