Daily Fantasy Rundown – NBA DFS – April 4th, 2015
Welcome to Saturday’s edition of the Daily Fantasy Rundown with “leonem” and “dinkpiece”. Each day throughout the NBA season our daily NBA scouting reports will highlight the best top, value and cheap plays of the day based on the Daily Fantasy Industry’s pricing for salary cap games. Our analysis will help you consistently build winning rosters over the long run.
Chris Paul (LAC) – The Clippers are still playing for playoff positioning and the chance at home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. This gives Paul the advantage over Curry for the top overall point guard play. The Clippers face the Nuggets who rank 16th in defensive efficiency against point guards and 24th in overall defensive efficiency. The Clippers have the highest team total on the day (112.5 points) and although they’re 9.5 point favorites, their weak bench often makes it difficult to hold big leads. On the road, I’m less concerned about blowout risk. The point guard position is deep again on Saturday so Paul isn’t a must play by any means. His price point on DraftKings is still investable in cash games but on sites where the price has risen dramatically (like FanDuel), I think he’s a stronger tournament play.
Ish Smith (PHI) – Smith has been a really productive per minute Fantasy player in Philadelphia (0.95 Fantasy points per minute) but a shared role with Isaiah Canaan has often limited his upside (26.3 minutes per game). With Canaan out, we expect Smith to approach 35 minutes. His value thresholds around the industry hover around 30-35 Fantasy points, which he should approach in a favorable matchup against the Hornets who rank 18th in defensive efficiency against point guards. The Hornets are also a team that funnels opportunities to point guards in the pick-and-roll, ranking in the Top Five in percentage of play types that end with the pick-and-roll ball handler. This is a matchup that should increase efficiency and volume which accompanied with a minutes boost makes Smith an elite value play.
