Week 19 of the EPL season is here.  Yes, I know my last write up was for week 17, but this week, they played in the middle of the week. Hope everyone had a great Holiday Season. By now you all know me, Jerzeydevil. Lets get to my weekly write up for you great soccer fans once again. The write up this week is for the EPL Weekly – $50 GTD (S) over at StatClash.  Remember you don’t have to join that contest, there are many other games on the board.

Keepers:

JOE HART (Manchester City) $21.50  Hart and Manchester City are just rolling along right now in the EPL. They had a big win over Liverpool in midweek play. Hart has been managing some decent fantasy points.  In his last 3 games Hart has 3 wins, 13 saves, and 4 goals against. This week City plays host to Crystal Palace, which is at the bottom of the table. I don’t see Palace being able to slow down City this week and with that, Hart should have good numbers at the end of the day.

JOEL (Everton) $17.00  Ok, I have Joel in here due to Howard receiving a red card on Thursday. So I’m figuring Joel will get the start. Joel can save you cap space so you can go out and upgrade better players in other positions. Plus, after Everton losing to last place Sunderland, I believe they will be ready for this game. Look for Everton’s defense to step it up and help Joel out so he can get the win.

HUGO LLORIS (Tottenham) $22.50  Lloris is a pretty good keeper. I have had him in my lineup a few times over the season already. Tottenham hasn’t been playing that well lately. They have a loss and a draw over the last few weeks in games that they should have won. They really need to start playing better and getting some wins. This week they should be able to do that as they are home against Stoke City. I like Lloris in this matchup and you should, too.  He’ll record more fantasy points than his 7 points last week.

Defenders:

MATHIEU DEBUCHY (Newcastle) $14.75   I have been trying to stay with a few players at defense in my lineups and Debuchy has been one of them. He isn’t scoring or getting assists but he is crossing the ball a lot which does get you points. Last week he did get an assist in the game against Stoke City. Debuchy will need to play great this week if Newcastle has any chance to stay with Arsenal.

SEAMUS COLEMAN (EVERTON) $16.00  Here is a defender that I wish I had in my lineup over the last few weeks.  Coleman has scored in 2 out of his last 3 games, which is big (huge) for a defender. Over the last 5 games he has the 2 goals, 4 shots on goal and 19 crosses. Like I said earlier, I like Everton to bounce back nicely on Saturday after their horrible loss to Sunderland.

Midfield:

EDEN HAZARD (Chelsea) $20.00  I look for players that score and assist at the midfield, just like the strikers and Hazard can do that. He is a great midfielder for Chelsea. Hazard has been putting up some great fantasy points this season. He scored on Thursday against Swansea and it was the game winner. He has 3 goals over his last 5 games. Chelsea will need Hazard to keep up his good play as they host Liverpool this week.

THEO WALCOTT (Arsenal) $18.00  It finally seems like Walcott is starting to heat up again and it couldn’t come at a better time for Arsenal as the lead on top of the table is only 1 point. Walcott scored 2 goals in Arsenal’s win over West Ham on Thursday. Back on the 14th, Walcott scored 2 goals in a loss to Manchester City. I believe he will keep his great play up against Newcastle on Saturday.

YOHAN CABAYE (Newcastle United) $17.50  Here is a player I know has never been in my write ups. Cabaye is a good midfielder, but I’m guessing I never mentioned him due to other players that were scoring and getting better fantasy points. Cabaye has scored in back-to-back games with 3 goals in his last 5 games. Throw in his 7 shots on goal, 13 crosses and 11 corner kicks and he starts looking like a gem. Newcastle has a tough game on Saturday as they host Arsenal, they’ll need Cabaye to keep up his great play.

Strikers:

Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)  $22.75  I finally have Rooney back in my writeup again. A few times I mentioned him and used him he didn’t do anything for me. Seems like Rooney is finding his groove once again. Rooney had a goal and assist on Thursday in helping United get a win against Hull City. United is on the road this weekend against Norwich City. This shouldn’t matter as I feel Rooney will keep his point streak going.

LUKAS PODOLSKI (Arsenal)  $18.00  Podolski came back from his injury on Thursday. Admittedly, I thought he’d be rusty and not do much in his 1st few games back – I was wrong. Podolski looked sharp in his return with a goal, 3 shots on goal and 1 cross. There aren’t any other stats to talk about as he has been out all season with the injury.  Scoring in his 1st game back is big and Podolski is a great striker.  I expect you will see more goals from him so have him in your line up this weekend.

LUIS SUAREZ (Liverpool) $25.50  What is there to say about Suarez right now? He is the best striker in the EPL and probably one of the best in the world. He has been scoring so many goals since his return. Thursday marked the first time he didn’t record a goal in his last 5 games. Just because he didn’t score doesn’t mean you forget about him – I mean how can you when he has 9 goals, 7 assists, 21 shots on goal and 20 crosses in his last 5 games? Those are astronomical numbers!

I wanted to list the scoring system that StatClash uses. I have been asked why I list some of the stats that I do because they felt as though you didn’t get points for some of them, but you do.  Check it…

Offense S/M/D:

  • Goals 5.00
  • Assist 3.00
  • Shots on Goal 1.00
  • Crosses & Corners 0.20 (these 2 are ones some people thought you didn’t get credit for)
  • Foul Against 0.50
  • Red Cards -5.00
  • Yellow Cards -2.00

Keepers:

  • Goals 5.00
  • Assist 3.00
  • Wins 5.00
  • Ties 3.00
  • Saves 2.00
  • Shutouts 3.00
  • Red Cards -5.00
  • Yellow Cards -2.00
  • Goals Against -2.00

This concludes this weekends writeup. As always, I hope you find it helpful when putting your team together. Do yourself a favor and look very closely at the midfield and striker positions. There are so many more players that are playing great soccer! Good luck & enjoy your weekend of DFS EPL over at StatClash! -JD
