Daily Fantasy Rundown – January 7 NBA DFS Picks and Analysis
Welcome to Thursday’s edition of the Daily Fantasy Rundown with “dinkpiece”, “leonem” and“TheNumbersGuy”. Each day throughout the NBA season our daily NBA scouting reports will highlight the best top, value and cheap plays of the day based on the Daily Fantasy Industry’s pricing for salary cap games. Our goal is to bring analysis that will help you build rosters that put you in position to win consistently over the long term.

Point Guard – Our featured site for the point guard position is FanDuel
Rajon Rondo (SAC) – Rondo is questionable to play tonight, and he sat out on Tuesday due to back spasms. If he plays, he’s worthy of consideration in all formats. We’ll dive into the sort of opportunities that the Lakers allow in Darren Collison‘s blurb (Collison would start for Rondo is he’s unable to play), but Rondo’s value threshold sits at around 40 Fantasy points. That’s right in line with his average DFS performance this season, and given the awesome matchup, there’s profit potential here. The opportunity cost at the point guard position is high, but Rondo projects as the top performer at his position if he takes the court.
Ish Smith (PHI) – Smith is one of the lone bright spots in a Sixers team that has a record of 4-33 (worst in the NBA). Smith has become the primary option on offense for the Sixers, accumulating a 29.6 percent usage rate and 45.2 percent assist rate in six games. Tonight, Smith faces a Hawks defense that’s ranked 20th in defensive efficiency against point guards. Smith is averaging around one FanDuel point per minute this season, and he needs 29 minutes in order to meet his value threshold. On a site like FanDuel where he’s underpriced (nine percent below the average cost of a roster spot), Smith is our primary target at the point guard position. He’s cash game viable on DraftKings, but the rest of our value options at the position are cheaper on that site while Smith is priced fully. We prefer him in tournaments on DraftKings. On Atlanta’s side of things, Jeff Teague (ATL) also represents a good option in all formats on FanDuel (particularly tournaments). Teague’s playing time has been all over the place as of late (likely due to his inconsistent shooting), but a matchup against the Sixers (ranked 21st in defensive efficiency against point guards) could be what he needs to get going. Unlike Ish Smith, Teague isn’t the primary option in his offense, but a good matchup against an up-tempo team (Sixers are ranked sixth in pace) that’s not very good on defense could help his efficiency. Given the short slate and profit potential for Teague, we’re willing to overlook the associated risk in recent playing time a little bit and use him in all formats on a site like FanDuel where his price is friendly. He’s a better option for tournaments on sites where he’s priced fairly (DraftKings).
