League of Legends DraftKings Picks For April 8th (2:00 AM ET Slate)

League of Legends DraftKings Picks For April 8th (2:00 AM ET Slate)
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Here are some LoL (League of Legends) elements that are relevant for us moving forward.

-There are six positions you’ll have to fill in your LoL lineups. Top, Jungle (JNG), Middle (MID), Attack Damage Carry (ADC), Support (SUP) and Team. The former five are actual positions that players take in the map, while Team is just an additional one that DraftKings added and will accrue less scoring. In other words, Team is the least important position when it comes to roster construction.

-LoL is a lot like baseball stacking wise. However, you want to stack players from a single team, not games. Stacking is pivotal in LoL DFS, particularly 4-3 and 3-3-1 stacks.

-Game stacking isn’t a winning proposition over the long run because ultimately, there’s a losing team. If you look at the statistics of losing teams in LoL, you’ll notice they will lack engagements (kills, creeps score), which ultimately hurts their score. However, there are losing teams that are aggressive and if you’re picking underdogs, you want to make sure they’re going after engagements.

-Speaking of engagements – you want to make sure that the players you select are looking for fights as often as possible. More fights = more opportunity for points. Simple enough, right?

Top Plays

The LCK is taking over the top plays today, with Gen.G (-998) and DAMWON Gaming (-550) leading the charge in odds. Furthermore, Gen.G has the best matchup in this slate and they’re a dominant team in the LCK. Gen.G has won 74.3% of their games and have posted a dominant 1.74 kill to death ratio this spring season. Thus far, Gen.G is the best team in the LCK with T1 a close second. On top of their dominance in the LCK, APK Prince is their matchup today, and they’re easily one of the worst teams in the league. On the season, APK Prince is averaging 14.3 deaths per game, which is the worst mark in the LCK this season. Most of Gen.G’s players are priced as the second or third highest at their positions. In fact, you can build competitive teams while using their ADC, Ruler, at captain, at a cost of $11,400 on DraftKings. If you wanted to build through the top favorites in this slate, you can use their TOP, Rascal, at captain for just $9,300. This allows you to build through a higher upside position than support as well as bring back a 4 man Gen.G stack with other high end stacks in this slate.

DAMWON Gaming is facing Griffin, a team that’s won under 30% of their games this season. Griffin is also middle of the pack in deaths per game (11.6) during the spring season. They’re a boring team and one of our concerns is that pace of play is so slow that DAMWON Gaming wins but doesn’t end up generating upside performances. Given their odds, quality of matchup and and the fact that DAMWON Gaming is ranked third in the league in kills per game (11.9), those concerns about pace of play fall a bit short. Like Gen.G, you can use DAMWON Gaming’s ADC (Ghost) or their MID (ShowMaker) and still build pretty compelling upside teams.

The best team in the LPL that’s in action today is Top Esports (-316). They’re averaging the third most kills per game (15.6) in the LPL and have won 61% of their games this season. Their matchup against Team WE, an above average team, is a good one. There shouldn’t be any pace concerns here given that Team WE is averaging the fifth most kills per game and are ranked slightly better than middle of the pack in deaths per game (13.9). Top Esports are priced as the most expensive players on the board today and while that’s somewhat questionable relative to their odds, they do have some of the best talent scoring wise in this slate. You could argue that they could be ranked in between Gen.G and DAMWON Gaming today and they probably pack in the most upside in raw points if they run into the right game environment/get the win.

Value Plays

Vici Gaming (-270) leads the way as the top values in this slate. Vici Gaming gets an upside spot against Rogue Warriors, a below average team that’s averaging 17.1 deaths per game – the second worst mark in the LPL this season. They’re also averaging 13.7 kills per game, which is a slightly above average mark thus far. Vici Gaming is only averaging 11 kills per game. This is a clear up in pace matchup for Vici Gaming and they’re a favorite against a team that’s won just 42.3% of their games this season. Whether it’s building your team through Forge, their MID or iBoy, their ADC, their mid tier price tags allow you to get creative and build strong upside stacks. Given the array of options in this slate, we recommend building through higher scoring positions than support at captain today.

Another example of building teams with double ADCs or MIDs is Oh My God (-205) or perhaps even Suning (+166). Oh My God would be the consensus pick of the two given that both teams are facing each other tonight and Suning is a better matchup on the whole as they’re averaging 15 deaths per game this season. On the other hand, Suning’s ADC, huanfeng, has topped 100+ DraftKings points four times this season. This team is talented and score better in wins as they’re a more aggressive team, averaging 14.2 kills per game this spring season. huanfeng’s captain cost is $10,500 today. You can build 3-4 man Suning stacks through huanfeng at captain and it’s very likely that you’ll leave money on the table even if you roster an expensive stack coming back. That’s how cheap Suning is in this slate. Building through Oh My God would be a very similar experience given that they’re affordable as well.
