May 10th MLB DFS Picks: Mother’s Day Edition
Good morning DailyRoto members! Since today is Mother’s day, a special day, I’ve decided to do a special format for today’s picks. As a note, remember that since today is filled with day games after night games, certain players might get a day of rest. Make sure that everyone is in the lineup before putting them in yours.
Catcher: Devin Mesoraco
Mother: Laura Mesoraco
Mesoraco has had an odd year. He’s been banged up and hasn’t seen much time behind the dish. However, since this game is being played at US Cellular, an American League park, he should sneak in this game as a DH. He’ll be squaring off with the gas can John Danks, and is a top option at a very shallow position.
First Baseman: Lucas Duda
Mother: Eleanor Duda
Duda has been fantastic so far this season. He’s changed his approach a bit and it has paid off. Today he gets a huge park shift and the relic Chad Billingsley on the mound. It’s a deep position, but Duda provides salary relief (relative to the other options) and a great matchup. His career .219 ISO against right-handers doesn’t hurt.
Second Baseman: Scooter Gennett
Mother: Tina Gennett
On a day where you’ll need to find some salary relief to fit in Felix Hernandez, you’ll need to dip down at the less than potent positions. Gennett should get a solid lineup spot against Kyle Hendricks who has struggled so far this year for the Cubs. Gennett is a very solid bat against right-handers and he gets a nice run-scoring environment at home in Miller Park.
Third Baseman: Kris Bryant
Mother: Susie Bryant
He finally did it. Yesterday Kris Bryant hit his first big league home run, and I’m hoping that opens the floodgates. His salary is still manageable throughout the industry and he’ll get a nice matchup against Matt Garza today. Garza is missing less bats than ever before and is getting touched up on a regular basis. The total for this game is currently sitting at 8.5, one of the highest of the day.
Shortstop: Jhonny Peralta
So I couldn’t find Jhonny Peralta‘s mothers name. Sorry. But that doesn’t mean we can’t roster him anyway. Peralta has a career .345 wOBA and .190 ISO against southpaws and he should get a nice lineup spot against struggling left-hander Jeff Locke. The ball park is less than ideal, but shortstop is such a weak position, and I’m not expecting the game in Colorado to go due to weather concerns.
Outfielder: Jacoby Ellsbury
Mother: Margie Ellsbury
Ellsbury has been excellent to start the year atop the Yankees order. He’s getting on base, stealing bases and scoring runs. However, the power hasn’t translated yet. I’m not entirely worried about that as Yankee stadium is a haven for LH power and he’ll be facing Bud Norris today. Norris is a flyball pitcher (only a 37.2% GB%) and Ellsbury wants to show off for Margie today. He gets his first homer, I promise.
Starting Pitcher: Felix Hernandez
Mother: Mirian Hernandez
It’s King Felix, people. He will carry the largest price tag, but he’s the safest bet on Sunday. The string of high-priced pitchers not paying off is no longer. Felix gets to face an Oakland team at home in Safeco Park where he is a heavy favorite in a game with a total of 7. He’s got a K/9 of 9.50 with a 62.7% GB%…need I say more?
