MLB DFS GPP: Damn Yankees Starring Thor

by Logan Hitchcock

Like something straight out of the musical, the “Damn Yankees” struck last night – and they struck hard. Now it doesn’t compare to Rogers and Hammerstein, but prancing around the bases to the tune of 21 runs is a hell of a performance, and if you were so lucky as to have stacked them last night, you probably are doing your own dance now.

Here’s a list of some of the top guys from last night, including a snippet from the box score, and their fantasy point totals from FanDuel and DraftKings, respectively.

Player

FD Points
Noah Syndergaard 8IP, 3HA, 9K, 1W 38.2 21
Chris Young 3H, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4R, 5RBI, 1BB 40 17.25
Brett Gardner 5R, 3H, 1HR, 3BB, 3RBI 38 16.75
Didi Gregorious 2R, 4H, 1 3B, 3RBI, 1HBP 29 11.75

Murderer’s Row? I think not. However, some combination of those three Yankees with the Mighty Thor and a sprinkle of any marginal player last night, and your lineup was probably worthy of some dough.

Below I’ve listed some of the lineups and players that were worthy of all the dough.

While the  Yankees weren’t a completely off the board option last night, their matchup at Globe Life Park against Martin Perez wasn’t as worthy of salivation as the Blue Jays matchup at home against left-hander Adam Morgan. Prior to lineup lock, the Blue Jays implied run total was flirting with six runs and believe it or not, their salaries were accessible enough to put together a full stack, or at the very least, grab some decent ownership.

Well, a lot of people did that, and…it didn’t work.

A lot of people did not stack the Yankees, and…well…that worked.

Take a look at the ownership levels from the trio above, as well as three of the most sought after Blue Jays from last night’s game. These are taken from the Grand Slam at FanDuel ($25 Entry) and the $400K Special at DraftKings ($20 Entry).

Jose Bautista 27.1% 38%
Josh Donaldson 23.9% 25.1%

I mean, I don’t like the Yankees either, but C’MON MAN! (I whole heartedly attempted to say this like Keyshawn Johnson)

The tables don’t lie, using Yankees really allowed you to differentiate yourself from the field last night, and all of the winners took advantage of that fact.

Congratulations to all the winners last night, and better luck next week to those that didn’t use them. Sorry guys, but last night, it was best to suck it up and say it, “Damn Yankees.”
