MLB DFS GPP Recap: Schwingin’ with Schwarber

by Logan Hitchcock

Have you ever tried imitating Wayne or Garth from Wayne’s World? Despite my youth, I’m familiar with some of their skits, and their love for the word “schwing.”

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please watch the following clip before proceeding with the rest of the article.

Now that you’ve seen the clip. Imagine a short, chubby kid “schwinging” after the glorious sound of a Kyle Schwarber home run. It happened not once folks, but twice. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one taking advantage of Schwarber’s highlights for a moment of reminisce as Kyle Schwarber was one of the most popular plays of the night, and he certainly paid his dues.

Schwarber might have been your hero, but here is a look at some of the other impressive plays from last night.

DK Points

FD Points

Kyle Schwarber 2R, 4H, 1 2B, 2HR, 4RBI

Shin-Soo Choo 3R, 4H, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1HR, 3RBI, 1SB

Matt Holliday 2R, 2H, 1HR, 4RBI, 1BB

Chris Heston 7.1 IP, 6K, 2BB, 1HA, 1HBP

A common theme in the last few weeks of these recaps has seen the fade of the “popular” game or setting. Completely fading Coors Field last night was not in your best interest as without some of Prince Fielder, Delino DeShields Jr. or Shin-soo Choo, you probably had a hard time making your way to the top of the leaderboard.

You didn’t need all of these guys however, as combining someone like Holliday or Heston with even a few of the more popular top performers helped one jolt up leaderboards. Holliday was merely 3.3 and 5.3 percent owned in the Slugfest and Grand Slam at FanDuel and DraftKings respectively.

On a night with few pitching options, Heston followed in his footsteps, garnering ownership percentages of only 19.6 and 8.9, respectively.

While I’ve discussed a lot about the successes of being contrarian, tonight was not one of those nights. Chalk marked up all of the leaderboards.

Here are the guys that found themselves there.

You might notice that every winning team including Kyle Schwarber and some amounts of Coors Field last night. However, certain exposures to Coors Field provided an overwhelming dud performance (I’m looking at you, Tulo). While the Rockies team total skyrocketed with their matchup against Matt Harrison, the right-handers deployed to mash up Harrison essentially took the night off. If you were stuck rostering Troy Tulowitzki, Wilin Rosario and Drew Stubbs, sorry, but you didn’t win.

For those of you that did win, congrats. To the losers, “schwing” harder next time.
