It’s Friday, fellas. And although NFL football is about to get into full swing, we’re still going to grind MLB for the next few days. We’ve got all kinds of players lined up that you need to consider tonight. Big congrats to all of the LuDawgs players who cashed in last nights CFB kickoff action over at DraftKings. For now, head on in and let us show you what we’re thinking about on the diamonds across America tonight.
Yu Darvish – He’s the top pitcher clearly for Friday as he’s taking on a Twins team that’s in the top 2 in strike outs since the all-star break. We already know Yu can rack up strikes outs like crazy and with the Rangers match up the batters should be able to put up enough runs to get him the win. Yu has an ERA of 2.68 and averages over 10 strike outs per 9 innings.
Hyun-Jin Ryu – Ryu is a different pitcher at home and he’s really a good one to consider Friday with a match up against the Padres. Ryu has an ERA of 2.12 at home and a record of 6 and 2. The Dodgers offense shouldn’t have any problem with Stultz either insuring Ryu has a shot at the win.
Salvador Perez – He’s 3 for 4 vs. Buehrle who’s allowing right-handed hitters to hit .286 against him. Salvador is red-hot right now with a .372 average with 5 home runs in the last 10 games.
Victor Martinez – He’s hitting .450 with 1 home run in the last 10 games and batting close to .300 against right-handed pitching on the year.
Jason Castro – This might be a gamble as I don’t have a lot of information on the Mariners pitcher they are calling up, but he is right-handed. Castro is hitting .400 with 4 home runs over the last 10 games and batting .298 versus right-handed pitching.
Garrett Jones – He’s 4 of 7 with a home run against Cardinals starter Shelby Miller who’s not as good on the road and has an ERA over 4. Garrett Jones is dirt cheap as he’s not had the best year, but he’s hit close to .300 the past couple of years against right-handed pitching.
Billy Butler – Butler is 20 of 57 with 3 home runs against Buehrle who we already mentioned above. He’s batting .400 with 3 home runs in the last 10 games.
Paul Goldschmidt – He’s 9 of 17 with 5 home runs off Tim Lincecum in his career. He’s hitting .350 with 1 home run over the last 10 games and hits .294 against right-handed pitching.
Joey Votto – Votto is playing at Coors Field which automatically puts him in consideration. He’s batting .335 versus right-handed pitching and .328 on the road. It also helps that Jeff Manship is struggling with left-handed batters.
Omar Infante – He’s hitting .368 with 1 home run over the last 10 games. He’s hitting .327 versus right-handed pitching and .328 at home.
Dustin Pedroia – He’s one of my favorites for Friday as he’s hitting .375 in the last 10 games and hits .348 against left-handed pitching.
Brandon Phillips – He’s got power and playing at Coors Field. He’s batting .286 over the last 10 games and hit’s right-handed pitching for an average of .286.
Aaron Hill – He’s 7 of 13 versus Tim Lincecum and hitting .361 with 1 home run over the last 10 games. He’s hitting .310 versus right-handed pitching and .313 at home.
Pedro Alvarez – He’s hitting .262 with 3 home runs in the last 10 games. He’s’ hit 29 of his 32 home runs against right-handed pitching and he could be the GPP play that pays off.
Miguel Cabrera – He’s a TRIPLE CROWN WINNER AND GOING FOR IT AGAIN! (Check the lineup though he did leave early Thursday)
Will Middlebrooks – He’s hitting .345 with 2 home runs in the last 10 games. He’s batting .367 for the month of August and is very good against left-handed pitching.
Adrian Beltre – He’s hitting .361 with 3 home runs in the last 10 games. He’s batting .322 against right-handed pitching and .335 at home.
JJ Hardy – He’s 9 of 24 with 1 home run off CC Sabathia and hitting .308 with a home run over the last 10. He’s been a better hitter over the years versus left-handed pitching.
Asdrubal Cabrera – He’s 13 of 39 for an average of .333 off Rick Porcello. He’s hitting .308 over the last 10 games.
Elvis Andrus – He’s hitting .372 over the last 10 games and .308 in the last 30 days. The Rangers are facing a below average pitcher, so it won’t hurt to use him.
Troy Tulowitzki – If you want to pay for shortstop then he’s your guy as he’s 5 of 12 with 2 home runs off Arroyo. He’s hitting .405 with 2 home runs in the last 10 games. He’s a beast at home batting over .360 there.
Adam Jones – He’s 15 of 50 with 3 home runs off CC Sabathia and hitting .293 with 3 home runs over the last 10. He’s hitting .289 against right-handed pitching.
Bryce Harper – He’s 3 of 5 with a home run off Dillon Gee who struggles with left-handed hitters allowing them to hit .299. Harper is hitting .390 with a home run over the last 10 games.
Jason Werth – He’s hitting .250 with 3 home runs over the last 10 games and .390 over the last 30 days.
Alex Rios – He’s 3 of 6 with 2 home runs off Hendricks and could very well hit another one the Rangers hitter friendly park.
Shin Soo Choo – Choo is batting .282 with 2 home runs over the last 10 games and hits .319 against right-handed pitching. He’s at Coors field with a pitcher who struggles against left-handed hitters.
Khris Davis – He’s batting .343 with 3 home runs in the last 10 games and hits right-handed pitching for an average of .345. You can throw in the fact that he’s hitting .390 at home and you almost have to consider him.
