With a full slate of games available, Friday night is always a great time to play MLB DFS. At Sports Tradex, we have a Super Pick’em freeroll available. This contest is a great way to practice our Super Pick’em contests. Next week, we are having a contest where you could win a million dollars if you go 20-0 in a Super Pick’em.
Anyways, let’s not get too focused on next week and analyze some games!
Felix Rodriguez: In an article on Ludawgs before, I said you couldn’t go wrong picking King Felix at home against the Astros. Do you know how well that advice did?
The Astros lit him up for 6 runs (though only 2 earned) and handed Felix a loss. He had only 4 K’s in 7 IP.
Does this mean we avoid him this week? Of course not! Baseball is full of fluke games, but you have to go with picks that are generally work. Don’t be scared and draft King Felix unless his salary is out of the stratosphere.
Tim Linecum: Like King Felix, the Freak gets a soft opponent at home tonight. Lincecum sports a sky high k-rate as well. He likely will be significantly cheaper than Felix, making him a great value play with a ton of upside.
In our 3-on-3 pick’em matchups tonight at Sports Tradex, Lincecum is on ‘In the Blackmon’ with Charlie Blackmon and Xander Bogaerts against ‘Outdoor Gardners’ with Brett Gardners, Gavin Floyd, and Wilson Ramos. I like Lincecum’s team in this matchup, mainly because I think he’ll outperform Floyd. While Floyd’s strikeout rate has been up this year, I think you still mainly have to compare career numbers. Floyd’s career K/9 average is 7.1 compared to Lincecum’s 9.6. That combined with Lincecum having a better matchup gives his team the clear advantage in my opinion.
Tim Stauffer/Edwin Jackson: Looking for value at the pitcher position? Look to draft someone in the Padres-Cubs matchup tonight. Drafting a pitcher that is playing at PetCo is always a great move to make, but it’s even better when the opponent is the Padres or the Cubs! To me, these pitchers are very equal in terms of potential. Jackson’s K/9 rate is slightly above Stauffer’s, but the Padres are also slightly favored. So call it a wash. If either of them is dirt cheap, consider drafting them if you want to complete a high priced stack of hitters tonight.
Adam Jones: The Orioles are projected to be one of the higher scoring teams tonight and face rookie lefty T.J. House. While career-wise, Jones isn’t that strong against lefties, he’s been absolutely crushing them this season. Look to him for a strong chance at a homerun.
Nelson Cruz: Like Jones, Cruz is a nice option as part of an Orioles stack tonight. Though Davis’s lefty-on-lefty splits aren’t that bad compared to most lefties, I think you should still avoid him. Look to Cruz as another high ceiling outfielder.
Brian McCann: Yankees bats have been relatively quiet this year, but I think they have a chance at going off tonight against the White Sox. McCann is a great option at catcher, a position that people often punt. He’s priced quite reasonably at a lot of sites and has a lot of homerun potential.
Victor Martinez: He’s been red hot lately and faces a soft pitcher tonight. The Tigers don’t sport too many lefty hitters, so he’s a great option against a weak right-handed pitcher.
Jayson Werth: While the Nationals aren’t projected to be one of the higher scoring teams tonight, they do face a lefty pitcher. Werth crushes lefty hitting and generally isn’t too expensive on most sites.
