UFC 186 Mixed Martial Arts DFS picks
UFC moves north of the border to Bell Centre in Montreal, and we have a strong card on tap from the Great White North. The headline event features flyweights Demetrious Johnson and Kyoji Horiguchi doing battle, but the middleweight fight between Michael Bisping and CB Dollaway, as well as the welterweight tussle between veterans Patrick Cote and Joe Riggs will be very entertaining. Toss in an unbeaten Thomas Almeida against Canada’s own Yves Jabouin, as well as three female bouts, and there is excitement and interest from a number of areas.
(Kountermove.com salaries in parentheses) (all times ET).
Quinton Jackson ($5,000 vs. Fabio Maldonado): ‘Rampage’ had a three-bout losing streak from Sept. 24, 2011-Jan. 26, 2013, but after fighting his way back from Bellator he gets another crack at the big time. He is favored to dust Maldonado and get his career untracked. Rampage has an iron fist and he could deliver an early knockout blow to please his MMA DFS owners.
Demetrious Johnson ($5,700 vs. Kyoji Horiguchi): ‘Mighty Mouse’ (-1000) is an overwhelming favorite as he looks for his eighth consecutive victory. This main event could be the shortest bout of the evening, especially if Johnson can get Horiguchi on the ground in rather quick fashion. If that happens Horiguchi will be in danger of submission. Eight of Johnson’s 21 wins have come by submission, including a Round 2 submission (kimura) against Chris Cariaso last time out in UFC 178.
PLENTY OF UPSIDE
Patrick Cote ($4,900 vs. Joe Riggs): ‘The Predator’ is 35 years old and in the twilight of his MMA career, but this one will be special as he fights in his home nation. That should spur him on against Riggs, a southpaw Yank who lost his UFC debut, suffering an injury at UFC on FOX 13. If you want value Cote is your man.
CB Dollaway ($4,500 vs. Michael Bisping): Dollaway is a short dog against Bisping, and he is reeling after a first-round knockout at UFC Fight Night 58 against Lyoto Machida. Dollaway has been a good fighter in his career, but he is just 4-4 over his past eight bouts, beating the fighters he should and losing when expected. In this bout he is not expected to win, but the Briton Bisping is not exactly lighting the world afire, either. ‘The Count’ has dropped four of his past seven bouts, getting choked out against Luke Rockhold at UFC Fight Night 55 last time we saw him. At this price level Dollaway is a great DFS value as he could easily pull off a slight upset in a battle between two fighters in need of a win.
Nordine Taleb ($4,800 vs. Chris Clements): Vegas is all over Taleb (-270), and that’s good news for MMA DFS players looking for a value. According to the salaries Kountermove feels this will be a coin-flip bout, but Taleb is a clear favorite as Clements is fighting on short notice, taking over for the injured Claudio Henrique da Silva. The orthodox Canuck has won each of his past two bouts by decision, including a split decision at UFC Fight Night 54 over Jingliang Li. Taleb meets an over-the-hill 39-year-old fighting in likely one of his final bouts. Don’t expect much before he heads off into the sun.
