Week 3 EPL DFS Picks: Hazardous Conditions
Back for another edition of the weekly soccer picks, good luck to everyone!
The Top Choice – Thibaut Courtois ($5,800) – Courtois is ridiculously priced at $5,800 but he is a clear cut top play this weekend. Burnley were not heavy goal-scorers in the Championship last season and there is a very good chance they will lose Andre Gray to suspension for at least one match. This is big news as Gray is their what their entire attack revolves around. On top of that, Chelsea have been playing two defensive midfielders at a time this season and have conceded the second lowest shots in the league in the first two matches – just 13 (only seven in the box). The Blues also lead the league in allowing the lowest number of crosses and have overall been fantastic in defense. They have allowed a goal in each of their first two matches, but I don’t expect that to happen on Saturday.
GPP Targets – There are realistically a number of top goalkeepers this week with good clean sheet chances. Use a variety of goalkeepers in GPPs – David De Gea, Fraser Forster, Maarten Stekelenburg, Petr Cech, Kasper Schmeichel, Alex McCarthy.
Solid Cash Option – Cedric Soares ($4,900) – Cedric has been solid in the Saints’ first two matches and has averaged eight points despite not earning a clean sheet. The clean sheet was ruined by a very improbable goal from Watford in week one and then Manchester United proved too much in week two, but this is a perfect scenario for a clean sheet to add to Cedric’s already solid value. He is a primary cash target.
Cheaper Choice – Kyle Naughton ($3,700) – Naughton has been very involved in Swansea’s attack this season – tallying 11 crosses and five shots in the first two matches. That’s been good for double digit score each week. At this price, even a tough match away at Leicester City doesn’t really scare me. Leicester will likely attack for the majority of the match but Swansea will have chances to counter and Naughton will find ways to go forward. It also helps he contributes through interceptions and tackles, and the fact he plays on the right means he should avoid chasing Riyad Mahrez around all match.
GPP Targets – Leighton Baines, Mason Holgate, Stephen Kingsley, Branislav Ivanovic,
The Top Choice – Riyad Mahrez ($9,900) – Mahrez comes at a ridiculous price but he is well worth it tomorrow. The midfielder is on free-kicks and penalties and Leicester are looking for their first win of the season. Getting Swansea at home is a boost, and you can expect Mahrez to be a lot more involved than he was in Leicester’s last match against Arsenal. Don’t be afraid to fire up teammate Vardy in GPPs.
Southampton Duo – I once again love the Southampton duo of Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond. They both come at respectable prices and get a huge shift from opposition from facing Manchester United last week to facing Sunderland this week. They are both cash game options at their respective prices, and I don’t see a scenario where I don’t use at least one. They combine a great floor/ceiling combo where neither will kill your lineup but each has upside to single handedly win you cash.
GPP Targets – Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba, Yohan Cabaye, Andros Townsend (also a strong cash option)
The Play – Eden Hazard ($8,600) – Hazard combined a great mixture of floor and ceiling that make him the perfect cash and GPP play this weekend. He faces the worst team in the league, at home, and if Willian is out he is set to take a few corner kicks once again. That, combined with his crosses, shots, fouls won, and assist/goal potential is a recipe for success. Teammate Diego Costa is an equally high ceiling player, but his low floor makes him a GPP only target.
Cheap Cash Play – Nordin Amrabat ($4,000) – Amrabat might not start, but if he does, he is well worth the $4000 he costs. Although Arsenal is a tough task, I think Amrabat will earn enough phantom points to be competitive in cash games. Another cheap option is Kevin Mirallas, but he’s been playing less minutes and Everton have shifted corner kicks away from him, making him a risky play.
Manchester United – I don’t love this game for Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Wayne Rooney to where I trust them in cash, but these two will be GPP options every single weekend going forward. Zlatan has a chance at a brace every time he gets on the field, but the high ownership and high price this week make weary of their road-trip. Use in GPPs only.
GPP Targets –Diego Costa, Bojan, Kevin Mirallas, Connor Wickham
